Location: London, Barking
Organisation: London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
Barking and Dagenham has the most untapped potential for growth in the capital, with excellent accessibility. It will be London’s next big growth story, delivering 50,000 new homes and 20,000 new jobs over the next twenty years.
Housing is at the heart of the Borough’s drive to improve the quality of life for residents and to create thriving communities and attractive places where people positively choose to live. The Council’s objective is to ensure that residents can find an affordable and high-quality home at a mix of tenures and prices across the borough.
In 2012, the Council created its own company called Reside as a private sector landlord with a social purpose. Today, Reside is a significant landlord in the Borough; it has over 800 homes at affordable rent levels and over 70 shared ownership homes on its books. We are committed to further growth and have plans in place to increase our portfolio to 4,000 homes by commissioning our regeneration company Be First to build the new homes.
As Chair of Reside, you will be tasked with leading the board. This role requires an individual with a respected track record of operating at a senior level and an ability to develop the appropriate governance arrangements for improving customer services, maximising operational income and championing a portfolio of assets to deliver strong social purpose. Preferably with demonstrable links to the East of London, you will be committed to providing direction to the Company, helping us to maximise investment returns and deliver on our key strategic priorities.
Given the scale of our ambition, you will need to be passionate about wanting to make a difference for the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Moreover, your commitment will be underpinned by a strong value base that puts our community – present and future – at the heart of what we are about.
Closing date for applications is: Tuesday 10th July 2018
