Location: United Kingdom
Organisation: UK-based international development charity
Our client is a well known and well established Christian Non-Governmental Organisation based in the UK, and working in more than 50 countries to end poverty through sustainable development, by responding to disasters and by challenging injustice. The organisation aims to support the spectrum of the church across the UK to engage in a whole-life response to poverty, and as part of this drive, they have embarked upon an initiative to better connect with the UK’s churches which have predominantly Black congregations. This drive has many strands one of which is to appoint a Trustee to their Board who has strong links with Black Majority Churches in the UK and who can lead a Committee comprising other well networked Christians from the Black community.
You will be a full member of the Board and will most likely sit on at least one sub-committee as well as lead the organisation’s efforts to connect more effectively with Black Christians in the UK. Well networked and well respected amongst people in Black Majority Churches, you will either have a background in the clergy or be a layperson who has played a senior and influential role in your church and ideally more widely amongst Black Majority Churches in the UK. With experience of chairing committees, you will have the stature to meaningfully connect this charity with Black Christian communities and make a strategic contribution to the working of the charity as a whole including of course in diversity and inclusion.
The role is non-renumerated and reasonable expenses will be paid, and the time commitment is likely to be 15-20 days per year.
