BASIC is a nonprofit think tank working to safeguard humanity and Earth's ecosystem from nuclear weapons risks and interrelated security threats, for generations to come. Founded in 1987, we have 35 years’ experience of convening meaningful dialogues across complex political divides, and a reputation for generating innovative, high-quality research and policy advice.
Our role is to draw together different perspectives within the nuclear weapons / security debate, where we can push the boundaries of policy discussions. We are independent and defend our freedom of speech, receive no core funding from any state, and our project work is funded transparently. As a fast paced, inclusive, and rewarding environment in which to work, we have experienced significant growth since 2017, and our intention is to continue this growth trajectory.
As part of the senior management, we are looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial, creative, collaborative and experienced Research Director to oversee our growing Policy Team and their programmes, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the think tank. With a track record of clearly demonstrated professional experience developed in the nuclear weapons policy field, you will have a strong background in fundraising, and use your well-established network of relations in the field to cultivate, strengthen, and amplify the work of our programme managers. This is a new role at BASIC and the successful candidate will have the latitude to shape it, in collaboration with the Executive Director and the rest of the team.
