Tearfund has today announced the appointment of Bishop Wayne Perkins as the new Head of African and Caribbean Engagement team.

Bishop Perkins will lead the work of the team engaging with Tearfund’s growing community of Black Majority Churches within the U.K.

He will also oversee the development of the new platform ‘The Well’, a powerful initiative working with Black Majority Churches and Christians of African and Caribbean Heritage to help fight extreme poverty and injustice.

Bishop Perkins brings a wealth of experience to Tearfund, having been actively engaged in pastoral ministry and leadership for over 25 years. He is an ordained Bishop within the New Testament Church of God (NTCG), senior pastor of NTCG Chrisma in Woolwich, and a member of the National Executive Council.

Bishop Perkins has also combined his calling to church leadership with a long career in the corporate world where he has had experience in the areas of banking, financial services, business consultancy and information technology.

Bishop Perkins said: “I am excited to be joining Tearfund and working with the African and Caribbean Engagement team. I’m looking forward to using my sphere of influence to speak up against injustice and for those living in poverty. There are many opportunities and challenges ahead and I look forward keenly to what God has in store for us.”

Jane Pleace, Global Fundraising Director at Tearfund, said: “I am excited that Bishop Perkins will be joining us to lead the African and Caribbean Engagement team and help guide the Well as it looks to grow and develop.

“Bishop Perkins’s experience in both church leadership and the corporate world make him the ideal choice for this role. He brings a vision that will be hugely exciting in this next season.”

Bishop Perkins will be introduced at the Declaration: New Year Prayer Week event which is organised by The Well and Christian broadcasters TBN UK
